Ambar Skin

AmbarSkin Installed

The ambar skin is a simple but fully functional blue-hued skin - suitable for beginners as well as stalwarts. This skin provides many features to improve productivity while obscuring the less used features/areas.

Some of the ideas were collected from several other skins, looking for the best in each - TWiki:Plugins/GnuSkin, TigerSkin and TWiki:Plugins/KoalaSkin to name a few.

Things I like about this skin:

• uses the savemulti script, so you don't have to preview before save
• very readable and clean, and a minimum of graphics
• easily customizable left-menu
• action menus at top and bottom

Things I don't like:

• left-menu can't be customized by each user, only by web
• page titles for edit and preview are the same as for view, so browser 'back' list doesn't give you a clue
• Not all the templates are implemented
• No 'printable' menu item by default

Installation

Note: You do not need to install anything on the browser to use this skin. The following instructions are for the administrator who installs the skin on the server where TWiki is running.

• Download the installation ZIP file (see below)
• Unzip AmbarSkin.zip in your twiki installation directory
• Test if installed: http://software.brayden.org/twiki/bin/view/TWiki/AmbarSkin?skin=ambar

Once the skin is installed, it picks up the side-menu from the topic "WebMenu" in the current web. Note that the entire WebMenu topic is included in the side bar to form the menu - this behaviour differs from other Skins such as the TWiki:Plugins/GnuSkin, where WebMenu is used to describe the menu by defining variables in this topic. The present approach has the advantage of flexibility in controlling the content/look of the side-menu by the user. Also, this does not require separate plugins to be installed for rendering the menu.
