Wash This Blood Clean from My Hand

by Fred Vargas

Review

Wash This Blood Clean from My Hand is a gripping crime thriller. The protagonist, commissaire Adamsberg of the Paris police, has been on the trail of a serial killer for 30 years. But he has two problems: nobody else really believes there is a serial killer, and even Adamsberg admits that the purported killer died 16 years ago. The killer has always managed to lay the blame for his murders on someone else, and this time it is Adamsberg's head on the block.

OK - there are many aspects of the novel that are not quite believable. But it still manages to suck you in and keep you there, right to the end.
