Detective Inspector Percy Peach, pencil moustache, prematurely bald, a 'smaller version of Oliver Hardy', dedicated to capturing criminals and making life hell for his boss 'Wanker Willy' Tucker. Sidekick is Detective Sergeant Lucy Blake. Set in Lancashire. This is the first I've read in this series - I think I'll read more. Entertaining.
An all-day deluge of rain washes a body out of the ditch where it had been hidden. It is discovered lodged in a nearby stream by a man reluctantly walking his dog in the downpour. Medical and forensic examination reveal that the man did not die of drowning but was struck on the head and then garroted. Dental records reveal that the man was a priest in the Roman Catholic church.
