Power and Persuasion in Late Antiquity

Synopsis

what was I thinking? I had read somewhere that Peter Brown is the leading authority on the late classical period. And I'm interested, in a peripheral way, in learning more about that period. But this, with its obviously academic title, was not my cup o' tea. I just want to know how the hell Christianity took over the Roman empire so quickly. How did the empire transition from the greatness of Marcus Aurelius to the petty vileness of the Byzantine Christian empire?
