Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything

by Joshua Foer

Review

Joshua Foer set out to write a short piece about the US memory championship and wound up eventually being a finalist in that same competition. He learned that memory champs don't have 'photographic' memory; that amazing memory can be learned; and that the techniques for learning to memorize go back millenia. It can be learned, but like anything else it takes great dedication, proper technique, and lots of practice. This is pretty fascinating stuff for those of us who struggle to remember, whose memories are like a rusty trap. I don't know if I will be able to improve my own memory based on the techniques referenced in this book, but I do think it's worth giving it a try.
