The pompous and incompetent director of a new University is found shot dead in his bedroom. There are numerous suspects and all have reasons other than murder to lie to the police. DI Peach and DS Blake have to sort it all out.
This has all the elements of the Peach/Blake series: plenty of suspects, Peach-inflicted torment on superintendant Tucker, a useful summing-up of the suspects and evidence prior to solving the case, and good characterizations.
Of those I've read so far, I would rate this the best of the series.
