Synopsis

she inherited a house in Sicily in 1948, but had no money to maintain it. She turned it into a 'lacondaria', a bed and breakfast, and managed to keep it and its gardens for 50 years. Guests included Bertrand Russell, Caitlin Thomas (much to Phelps' regret), Roald Dahl, Henry Faulkner, and Tennessee Williams.
