This is a terrific book for people with no knowledge of Java to get up to speed, assuming they also have no knowledge of any of Java's predecessors. It's not quite what I'm looking for right now, since I have used Java off and on since 1996, and have written roughly 400,000 lines of C, and quite a lot of C++ over the years. Given my background, HFJ is just a little too slow.
